Thisis a journey-man level position that requires understanding and application ofthe knowledge of engineering technology, systems engineering concepts to thespecific technical tasks at NASA Armstrong Flight Research Center.
Selectedcandidate will provide support to the SupportAircraft project serving as an operations engineer. This effort willinclude (but not limited to) the following
Developand/or modify existing procedures for the proper installation and integrationof experiments supporting space science research;
Developand/or modify existing procedures for the proper installation and integrationof experiments supporting environmental science research, conducting flightdemonstrations for expanded markets, missions and airborne capabilities thatare compatible with NASA’s wide-ranging Earth observation activities which arecritical to developing responses to environmental change here and around theworld;
Conceive,set up and conduct tests or studies of complete systems, components, orconcepts under research test conditions to investigate proposals for improvingperformance or other factors; or to obtain data for development,standardization, and quality control with some supervisory direction andreview;
Recordtest or report procedures and results, numerical and graphical data, and makesrecommendations for changes;
Createreports and other documentation necessary to describe the results of studies and/ortests;
Analyzeindicated and calculated results in relation to requirements, specifications,or test objectives;
Generateand validate test procedures to ensure that all system requirements are met;
Documentand elicit user requirements, perform requirements decomposition and allocationto fully document operational and functional needs for systems in specifictechnical areas;
Developprocedures for assembly, installation and integration of scientific instrumentsinto NASA’s Aircraft;
Reportstatus to Senior Technical Lead and/or Task Focal Point as required
Serve as an operational engineer for Armstrongprojects to develop and implement flight vehicle integration procedures acrossall required disciplines and organizations inside and outside of NASA;

Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s Degree in engineering or physical science and 3 years of workexperience with 1 of those years being in engineeringor;
Advanced Degree (Master’s or PhD) in Engineering orPhysical Science
Knowledge, skills & abilities required:
Ableto apply engineering principles and systems engineering processes;
Supportproject team in a dynamic and multi-task work environment by prioritizing workand coordinating task/project schedules;
Reviewproject instructions to ascertain requirements, specifications, procedures,objectives, equipment, nature of technical problem, and possible solutions;
Mustbe able to ascertain, manage and decompose requirements in specific technicalareas;
Strongcommunications and ability to work in a flight test team environment a must;
Twoyears of experience using CAD required;
Familiaritywith the NASA AFRC Support Aircraft program is desired;
Experience in aerospace industry highly desired;
Familiaritywith FAA 14 CFR and respective parts is desired;
Holdan FAA A&P Mechanic certificate is desired;
Knowledge using Creo 3.0 is highly desired.

May involve long periods of sitting or standing.

Need to work well with, co-operate, and support clients, supervisors, and co-workers

Normal hours are Monday – Friday, between the core hours of 7:00am – 6:00pm.
Punctuality and regular attendance are necessary to meet deadlines
Regular attendance is necessary and required
This position may work weekends or second shift. Flexibility is required based upon workload.
