About Transmission andDistribution

Southern California Edison’s (SCE's) Transmission and Distribution Organizational Unit (T & D) is responsible for planning, engineering, constructing, operating, and maintaining transmission and distribution facilities throughout the 50,000-square-mile territory. T&D is the steward of roughly $19 billion in assets that safely and reliably deliver electricity to 14 million residents via SCE’s 5 million customer accounts.

Position overview

The Transmission Estimator (Planner 3) position will serve as a lead on multiple projects that are highly technical, time critical, and engineering-sensitive. The successful candidate will direct the realignment of existing easements for third party relocations, while considering the legal and economic benefits of these decisions.

Typicalresponsibilities may include:

  • Providedesign engineering, cost estimates and project management activities foroverhead and underground, transmission, sub- transmission and distributionsystems. Will manage these elements from project inception toproject closing.

  • Coordinatesactivities externally and internally as needed to insure projectcompliance in regards to both external and or SCE standards, policies,rates, rules, as well as insuring project operating dates and orcompliance due dates are actively monitored and met.

  • Communicates andinterfaces on a regular and timely basis with customers, as well asinternal SCE organizations, departments, and other groups with regards toassigned projects.

  • Serves in the roleof assigned project lead and acts in the role of the primary point ofcontact to SCE Grid Design and Performance Management (GDPM) Manager andor other organizations as called upon in regards to assigned SCE projectsstatus.

  • Review projectsinvolving relocation of Transmission and Distribution facilities onrights-of-way and enforce adherence to operational standards

  • Act as 24 hour “OnCall” duty supervisor for the assigned work base.

  • Enforce safetystandards and protocols to ensure a safe work environment.

  • Perform otherresponsibilities and duties as assigned.

Minimum qualifications

  • Minimumof five years’ experience in transmission line work or as a Planner insubstation, transmission, distribution, telecommunication, or generationfacility.

  • Avalid Driver's License.

  • Willingto work on-call for 24 hour basis for the assigned work base.

Desired qualifications

  • Demonstratethe ability to take initiative and accountability for results while workingindependently.

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Businessor related field, or an equivalent amount of education, training, andexperience.

  • Demonstrated field constructionexperience.

  • Demonstrated thorough knowledge andexperience with transmission line construction, maintenance, methods,procedures, tools and materials.

  • Demonstrated broad knowledge oftransmission rights-of-way practices and corporate/business line policiesand practices, including safety and environmental rules and regulationsand the IBEW contract.

  • Demonstrated advanced knowledge andexperience utilizing engineering principles, construction standards, andindustry practices.

  • Demonstrated experience determining scopeof work, method of service, technical design requirements, andconstruction methods for overhead and underground facilities.

  • Demonstratedthorough knowledge and experience with project management principles,tools and techniques, including coordinating and planning with internaland external organizations, and functioning effectively under tight timeconstraints.

  • Demonstrated ability to serve as seniorstaff expert and provide leadership, direction, training and mentoring tostaff.

  • Must have excellent oral and writtencommunication skills, and be customer focused, to appropriately identifyand respond to customers, peers, management, and external stakeholders andfacilitate the presentation of ideas, concepts, and technical data.

  • Demonstrated ability to accurately gatherand analyze information and make strategic decisions regarding projectscope, impact, policy, development, and implementation.

  • Master’s Degreeand/or professional license in Engineering, Business or related field

  • Experience inTransmission and/or Distribution Construction supervision

  • Experience with Blue Print interpretation

  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suiteincluding Word, Excel, Outlook, and Access.

  • Experience with AutoCAD, Auto Desk UtilityDesign (AUD), SPIDA (or other Pole Loading programs), Design Manager (DM),and Visual Basic for Applications (VBA).


  • Candidatesfor this position must be legally authorized to work directly as employees forany employer in the United States without visa sponsorship.

  • Thisposition has been identified as a NERC/CIP impacted position - Prior to beinghired, the successful candidate must pass a Personnel Risk Assessment (PRA) orBackground Investigation. Once hired,the candidate must complete specified training prior to gaining un-escortedaccess to assigned work location and performing necessary job duties
