Lays out and determines the process, method and sequence of welding operations, sets up own work and welds, utilizing two or more processes, prototype and/or new Company products and tooling of various metals and alloys, where the welding characteristics of such materials are relatively unknown, the specifications are not fully established, and it is required to exercise a complete knowledge of the limitations and capacities of such processes as electric arc, inert gas-arc and gas welding. Performs hand or machine fusion welding on various product surfaces, including overhead, horizontal, vertical and circular, working to the most rigid specifications, where it may be required to weld product items in sealed chambers under controlled atmospheric conditions and/or under extreme temperatures. Completely fabricates jig frames and similar tooling assemblies by various welding processes. Determines the techniques and sequence of welding operations on Company products in initial production by interpreting blueprints and other authorized information, so as to allow maximum accessibility to welded areas on assemblies having enclosed or overlapping components, and to hold distortions and strains to a minimum. Lays out parts from tool design drawings, loft, master tooling and other references, sets up and welds jig frames and other tooling assemblies; makes paper templates as required for layout of framework joints to exacting tolerances. Welds such parts and assemblies as those of light and heavy gauge material, those having areas difficult to access, those subject to high pressure or stress, those where extreme care must be exercised to prevent leaks and cracks, and those which are to be machined to exacting tolerances and overall penetration must be uniform. Collaborates with responsible personnel in the development of new welding processes and techniques. Improvises temporary tools as required to facilitate completion of welding operations described herein. Performs rework and maintenance welding, repair and construction welding of machinery, equipment and buildings of the level of difficulty of the operations described above. Must possess and use valid Company and customer certifications as required for welding products of various metals where a minimum of two separate processes such as electric arc and gas are utilized. Performs Such Related Duties As: Heats materials as required. Performs torch soldering and silver and aluminum brazing as required. Torch cuts exacting angles and/or forms tooling assembly details to contour as required. May be required to use Zyglo to verify completeness of weld prior to inspection. Stamps own produced work for identification purposes. Uses hand and power-forming equipment incidental to the duties described above. Sets up and operates metal spray equipment as required. Basic Qualifications Experience as a welder. Experience with fabrication of jig frames. Experience reading Blueprints.

Heights: Able to work at heights. Able to work off of step stools, and lift platforms. Overhead work: Able to work overhead as required. Weight restriction: Able to Lift/push/pull/carry a minimum of 30 lbs. Body positioning: Able to twist/bend (neck or waist) and stoop. Able to work in awkward positions as required. Able to squat/kneel/crawl/reach as required. Work content: Able to use/hold/manipulate small tools and parts with hands. Simple grasping, power grasping and fine manipulation is required. Able to use vibrating tools and perform torqueing operations. Able to use power equipment. Repetitive tasks will be performed. Able to use computer keyboard, mouse and monitor for extended periods of time. Vision/Hearing: High level Hand/Eye coordination required. Corrective lenses may be used. Eye protection required in many instances. Color differentiation may be required. Must be able to hear at level required for positions. Environmental: Able to work around noise, chemicals, fumes and dust. Capable of using respirators and other personal protective equipment including hearing protection if required. Able to work outside if needed. Attendance: Regular attendance required based on set work schedule. Able to work any shift. Vehicles/Power moving equipment: Able to operate as required. Able to work around heavy equipment or machinery.
